Logos

Many if not all of these logos/symbols are colourful and eye catching. Symbols such as McDonalds, the Olympic rings, Nike, Apple, Batman and Superman are represented and known by their image used rather than their words.
For example the McDonalds “golden arches” were used as a symbol since the cooperation started in 1955 and are still used today. Ever since the late 1930’s the same Superman symbol has been used. It has been represent as an “S” on a shield. With the symbol on many occasions is the title “Superman”. The first Olympic rings were seen at the 1920 Antwerp Games and have been the same since. The image is of 5 rings all interlocking, each representing a different continent.

Elements that contribute to a good design are colour and shape. In a design you also have to consider a design that is suitable to a certain generation and it may change over time due to altering styles. The colour has to be bright and draw the attention of the viewer. Good bright colours to use in a design would be reds, yellows, greens and blues. Bad designs would include dark colours without unity in the design.

In many logo there are usually only one to two colours used and they are usually bright and vibrant. The most dominant colour that seems to be used is red. Red is seen in Coca Cola, Kit Kat, Fujitsu, Mobil, Colgate, You Tube, Virgin, Yahoo!, Fisher Price, Canon, CNN, Mitsubishi, KFC, Nestle and Kodak. Type is used solely on a regular bases for many logos many of them I have mentioned above, yet they also have an image that accompanies the text and can be recognised through both.

Many of the logos are recognised because they come from multi million dollar companies and these are American companies. They have a noticeable cultural influence because this factor. Designs and styles seen in logos and symbols have a western influence.
